You pointed us to a transcript of his confirmation to the post of deputy director under Joe Allbaugh. At the time, he was already acting deputy director. At that time, FEMA was still independent, not part of DHS which hadn’t even been created yet.

He got the job because of that…and because Senators of both parties assented to his appointment by a voice vote. Choke on it. I don’t play that game. There are several things that he’s done that I don’t approve of. Which proves not a thing. This is not a zero-sum game and they’re really not issues relevant to this situation.

Despite my disagreement with certain policies, as far as I’m concerned having Bush in the White House is much preferable to, say, an Al Gore or a John Kerry, and that’s all you need to know.

And in the CNN/USA Today, poll, 13% said President Bush is to blame for mishandling the disaster response.

And yet, Oliver mentions none of those things. And, unless I haven’t read all of his posts today, I don’t think that he has had a single word of criticism for any of the Democratic officials who shared resonsibility for that response.

This on a day that it became known that it wasn’t FEMA or any other Federal agency keeping the Red Cross out of New Orleans, it was the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security.

Another “blame Bush first” myth debunked.

Oliver, when are you going to admit that members of both major political parties share the blame for how the disaster was handled?

Because if you insisted that he do it now, while the relief effort is still in its early stages, I might have concluded that the only reason you wanted him to admit responsibility was to score political points.

At least it would seem that way to me.
