Tuco, I’m getting tired of filling in all the details you leave out.

The confirmation hearing you’re yelping about was not before the entire Senate, it was before the Committee on Governmental Affairs. The confirmation was not for the job of director, but the job of deputy director under Joe Allbaugh.

By the time Brown was promoted to director, FEMA had been folded into DHS. Was there a confirmation hearing then?

I thought I’d just point out that Brown’s appointment was subject to Senate confirmation.

If you go to the Mises blog, you’ll find a transcript of his confirmation hearings.

Not one Senator, Republican or Democrat, raised a single issue concerning his qualifications for the job, as far as I can see. Instead there was a lot of the usual kissy-face stuff from both sides of the aisle.

Not only that, the Senate confirmed him by a voice vote, which is akin to unanimous consent.

If this guy is as incompetent as everyone seems to be saying he is, doesn’t the Senate bear some responsibility for not adequately vetting his nomination?

The Republicans control the Senate. They, short of filibuster, cannot stop the nomination. Brown did not need a single vote from a Democrat to be nominated. And filibusters are obstructionist, right?

You are trying to exonerate the Republicans in Congress that provide the majority to nominate these people, because the Democrats didn’t filibuster? That is rich. Keep spinning, rat.

Mary Landrieu isn’t responsible for first response duty, sorry. Blanco and Nagin aren’t appointed, they are elected, they can’t be “fired”. Though they should step down if they are found to be grossly incompetent. Next smear, please.

Still waiting to hear that Bush’s response “may” have been inadequate. But cons will never admit the obvious. Party over country.

Have to wait a while Mousie. I’d like to hear both sides of the story. Since you have already passsed judgement, what was Brown’s explanation? Mousie? Oh, Mousie, Brown’s side? (hehe)

And, what about that corrupt bunch of yahoos in New Orleans and Louisiana. Hack politicians with the first repaonse duty and THEY FAILED MISERABLY. Will you join me in calling for their dismissal also. Or is all just more PARTISAN POLITICS?

Dugger, Fire Brown, Nagins, Blanco, and both Landrieus (keep the cops close by in case Ms Landrieu goes violent)

Starting the stopwatch to measure how many nanoseconds until the wingnuts use this news to claim: “See! He responded within a few hours of the disaster! What are you moaning about?”, conveniently ignoring the “two days” thing. What is this, the 19th century? We can cross the country in a few hours by plane and he gave them two whole days? And only 1000?

Right wingers are trying to spin all incompetence on the part of the Federal response as being:
a) exaggerated by the liberal media a
b) celebrities grandstandin
c) the fault of local officials

The overarching guideline, however, will be that Republicans are blameless. Let’s see what the trolls produce.
