Vacation Doesn’t Matter,Right?

For four years now, we’ve been told that the ridiculously long vacations George W. Bush takes don’t really matter. We’re told we’re just being ungrateful liberal whiners for pointing out the fact that George W. Bush has spent essentially an entire year on vacation since his appointment to the presidency in 2000.

Once again, the facts refuse to line up with the lies

One reason for the slow White House response, said a Republican who has been in contact with several officials, is that so many high-level officials and aides were on vacation. Vice President Cheney, for instance, was in Wyoming and did not return unil Thursday, and Nicolle Devenish, the president’s top communications adviser, is getting married in Greece with a number of mid-level aides in attendance.

At the end of the day we’re going to have to count up just how many Americans have died as a direct result of George W. Bush’s negligence. It’s going to be at least a 4 digit number.

And here is the key to George W. Bush’s reign over our nation, the permanent stain his presidency will leave on our America:

As president, Bush typically has been loath to admit mistakes, and this situation is no different.

Amen to that. (via Josh Marshall)

Forget it. Anonymous sources are worthless. Dugger say an anonymous Democratic source has told him that Howard Dean loves Billy Goats.

Dugger, Can you Prove its Not True!!!?

Are you really so stupid as to believe that the president is not on duty wherever he may be? Why are you not concerned with the HUNDREDS of city busses that the mayor of NO left to be destroyed, even though the official NO evac plan calls for moving the busses in order to protect them? The local govt. response to this disaster is shameful. The mayor and the governor left their people to die.

  3. EricBrian says:

No, van, the idiot Bush failed to respond. Because of his incompetence, people died.

I don’t understand why you and other right wing fanatics try to cover for Bush’s ’short comings,’ not to stay inability to understand even the most basic of issues.

It was not George Bush who chose to leave NO city and school buses to be destroyed by the hurricane. The mayor chose to do that. Why did the mayor not use these buses to evacuate his citizens from his city? Did he intend to leave the poorest and weakest of his citizens to die? He also chose to use as a “last ditch” shelter, a site that he himself had previously stated was not safe. Again, why not use those buses to evacuate instead of packing people into the superdome? OW will not even address the bus issue because he damn well knows that the mayor (D) and the gov (D) of LA completely f**cked up and shirked their duty to protect their own citizens while fleeing to saftey themselves.

I’m willing to bet that Vice President Cheney and Nicolle Devenish do not have access to the communications capabilities that follow the President around wherever he goes.

It’s interesting that in [yet another] post complaining about Bush’s “vacations,” you try to show his trip to Crawford was a detriment by linking to a quote about OTHER officials on vacation. Hope you didn’t pull anything in that stretch.

For what it’s worth, I too am disappointed in the response from Bush and other feds, but I don’t think an absolutely ideal response from him would have changed things as much as folks on the left would like to believe, and I don’t think the trip to Crawford or the cut funds for 2006 and beyond had anything at all to do with it.

scratch, I would bet that Cheney does have the President’s communications capability.

Anyone who thinks that a president who is away from the White House is impaired in their ability to communicate with other parts of the government or in receiving intelligence are seriously ignorant.

Whether Bush being in Texas had an impact on the Federal response can be debated, but I would guess that any impact is doubtful. Perception-wise, however, it allows the impression to be made that Bush isn’t taking events seriously because he is handling them from Texas and not D.C. Had Bush come immediately to D.C. and realled Cheney and others from their vacations, the focus would not have been on the Federal response, but rather the failure of state and local officials to evacuate the residents.
