Did anyone catch Geraldo Rivera’s report (video/transcript here) from New Orleans along with Shep Smith on Fox News about how the people in the convention center aren’t being allowed to get out and Sean Hannity reciting his talking points in order to combat reality?
“What the hell?”
In what world do we live in where Shepard Smith, Geraldo Rivera, Brian Williams, and Anderson Cooper can get in to people in need of help but the National Guard can’t?

I’ve never seen so many reporters speak truth to power. I think the media has awoken.
With Geraldo in tears and Shepard Smith shouting down Sean Hannity who STILL seemed to be trying to make this into something other than the disgrace it is, I am proud of journalists one again. I didn’t see this many tears from reporters on 9/11. I’ve NEVER seen this many reporters so angry!
How come the reporters are able to get in & out, yet nobody can get supplies in there? Why don’t the reporters bring food & supplies and/or help people get out, instead of just interviewing them and moaning about the conditions?
Mike – I think that they have helped – but that is not really the point. It is not a scalable idea to think that we can rely on reporters for relief efforts.
I think that they are helping more by shedding light on the relief performance – sure this situation went out of control – but their work has shown the levels of readiness we are at for a natural disatster and/or an attack on our soil.
