Failing The Accountability Moment

President Bush is going to tour New Orleans today, flying in on Air Force One. Are they serious? Do they really think that responding to a national disaster of this magnitude is really the same as punking the Kerry campaign on Hardball? There is massive death and massive chaos going on in New Orleans. Shouldn’t American citizens be getting airdropped MREs the same way we airdropeed MREs to Afghan and Iraqi citizens? Shouldn’t there be National Guard troops patrolling the streets of New Orleans and keeping the peace?

Why has the most visible form of support from the administration been Michael Chertoff – Sec. Homeland Security and Mike Brown – FEMA Director jumping in front of every TV camera they can? This isn’t a bunch of talking points that demand refutation — it is a crisis demanding action. President Bush ought to fire Chertoff and Brown and get folks like James Lee Witt back on the job and working with the National Guard to solve this.

Interesting observation about the the ineptitude of the federal response. Maybe it’s intentional -

I’m not endorsing this, but it does give one pause.

Well, on his tour today, he DID say that he was unhappy with the federal response- what more do you want? Do you expect him to actually DO something? Like a leader would?

Did I miss something? Where the hell is Dick Cheney?

  5. Joe Schmoe says:

Cheney is still ‘dicking around’ in Wyoming. He is the president’s best defense against impeachment.
