David Frum, Tony Blankley Join The Tinkerbell Caucus

Frum, the guy who speechified “axis of evil” says that Bush just has to give a really, really good speech and everything will be better (no word yet if the pixie dust is included).

Tony Blankley also pounds the table for a really awesome speech.

Study: Fetus feels no pain until third trimester

A review of medical evidence has found that fetuses likely don t feel pain until the final months of pregnancy, a powerful challenge to abortion opponents who hope that discussions about fetal pain will make women think twice about ending pregnancies.

I don’t think this resolves much, but it clears up some of the FUD thrown around by anti-choice advocates.

Disney Backs Away From Robertson’s Hate

6:08 pm EST August 23rd, 2005 | Politics | 4 Comments

The mouse couldn’t run faster

Not surprisingly, ABC Family was quick to disassociate itself from Pat Robertson’s call for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, saying he was contributing to Muslim extremism and breeding Communism.

Robertson’s comments came Monday on The 700 Club, which airs on the cable network through a long-standing agreement.

“ABC Family is contractually obligated to air The 700 Club and has no editorial control over views expressed by the hosts or guests,” said ABC Family spokeswoman Nicole Nichols.

“ABC Family strongly rejects the views expressed by Pat Robertson in the August 22 telecast of the program. All comments about The 700 Club should be directed to the Christian Broadcast Network through their toll-free number or via their website at www.cbn.com.

Adventures In The Liberal Media

Network affiliates refuse to run ads critical of their coverage of the crisis in Darfur.

Clear Channel blocks Cindy Sheehan’s anti-war ad.

MSNBC calls the anti-war majority “extremists”.

That was just Monday.

The Pat Robertson Hatestorm: Why Is ABC Supporting A Jihadist?

1:08 pm EST August 23rd, 2005 | Politics | 10 Comments

Here’s a rundown of Pat Robertson

Media Matters for America: Robertson Called for the Assassination of Venezuela’s President

Media Matters for America President and CEO David Brock today called on Pat Robertson to retract and repudiate his vitriolic comments against the President of Venezuela.

Media Matters for America first drew attention to Pat Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network’s The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

“Pat Robertson’s call for the assassination of a foreign leader is an irresponsible use of the public airwaves, as well as a call for the Bush administration to violate the executive order banning assassination,” said Brock. “Responsible news outlets should think twice before providing him a platform from which to peddle his inappropriate and inaccurate claims.”

Christians comment on how un-Christian Robertson is:

The general secretary of the National Council of Churches says he’s shocked by the televangelist’s call on “The 700 Club” Monday for the assassination of Venezuela’s president.

Pat Robertson is actively endangering American foreign policy.

Robertson’s comments appear likely to further stoke tensions between Washington and Caracas. Chavez has repeatedly claimed that American officials are plotting to oust or kill him — charges U.S. officials have denied.

The Tinkerbell Caucus: Up Is Indeed Down

12:08 am EST August 23rd, 2005 | Republicans | 1 Comment

Dedicated to those Republicans who, no matter the facts at hand, will twist facts until they’re past the pretzel phase in service of the right-wing agenda. In this edition we’ve got Mark Noonan at Blogs for Bush who goes to no other an authoritative source than GOP senator Jon Kyl to educate us slack jawed yokels about The Un-Appreciated Economic Boom. For those of you who lived through the Clinton administration and an honest to goodness real economic boom (the longest peactime expansion in history, as you’ll recall) may wonder what Messrs. Noonan and Kyl are smoking. Well you see, based on their statistics, we’re beating Europe and Japan — combined! Yes, we’re beating a nation and a region that have been mired in economic stagflation for over a decade – congratulations on lowering the bar, USA!

And congratulations to Mark Noonan and Jon Kyl, inaugural members (along with Jay Tea of Wizbang) in the highly respected Tinkerbell Caucus. Official motto: Clap. Clap Harder.

Edwards signals shift against war

For John Edwards, who voted as a senator to support the invasion of Iraq, his wife’s outreach to subscribers of their One America Committee Web site bears a distinct anti-war voice that could augur a new tack for Edwards as he prepares for a potential run for president in 2008.

“The president says he knows enough, doesn’t need to hear from Casey’s mother, doesn’t need to assure her that Casey’s is not one small death in a long and seemingly never-ending drip of deaths, that there is a plan here that will bring our sons and daughters home,” Elizabeth Edwards wrote in her e-mail last week. “He claims he understands how some people feel about the deaths in Iraq. The president is wrong.”
