How Could They Go Wrong?

CNSNews claims to have video evidence of protesters somehow taunting wounded soldiers, and if that’s true - it would be quite horrible. But you would think something like that would have made the real news and not just Brent Bozell’s news propaganda organization, right? These are the guys who promised us those documents proving Iraq had WMDs that seemed to never have materialized, and the story is being pimped by Matt Drudge whose truthfulness is about on par with Rush Limbaugh’s.

UPDATE: And of course it’s another exercise in lies from CNSNews and the RNC. In fact, the protestors are quite clearly demonstrating their support of the troops and their disdain for what the Iraq war has done to the soldiers. This won’t matter to the cons who trumpet this sort of thing, they don’t care about the facts as long as they can smear and move on to the next thing.

If it happened, it’s likely some Republican smear tactic like Communists for Kerry.

If Drudge’s most damaging accusation cited is true, Maimed for a Lie I think we should thank Drudge for the publicity.

Anti-War Protests Target Wounded at Army Hospital (Cybercast News Service)

The Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., the current home of hundreds of wounded veterans from the war in Iraq, has been the target of weekly anti-war demons…

“….is being pimped by Matt Drudge whose truthfulness is about on par with Rush Limbaugh’s.”

Quite true, they’re both pretty low on the truth-telling totem pole. But the fact that they’re both still higher than David Brock speaks volumes about your boss.

There’s a time and a place for everything, O. And in front of Walter Reed is not that place.

    PSU94,

Care to provide any facts to back up your claim? Or should we just consider you Rush-lite(tm)?

Let’s see. David Brock (who is my boss) has written two books that detail how he lied for the right and how the right’s lying works. I’m still waiting for Drudge, Limbaugh, etc. (who have bigger megaphones than Brock ever did) to write their mea culpas.

    Curmudgeon,

I’ve seen enough of your posts to know that you’re a complete tool and I don’t really care what you consider me.

If you need examples of David Brock lying, take your head out of the sand, go to Google, and search under “David Brock lies”.

I’m sure you have the time, you’re probably unemployed.

It seems odd that folks talk about Brock’s lies when he was the one that outed himself and he outed himself as a rightwing liar! It seems odd that those on the right would work to discredit him by saying he was one of our liars but he came to the light and now we hate him!

“Lecturer, syndicated columnist, television commentator, debater, publisher and activist, L. Brent Bozell III is one of the most outspoken and effective national leaders in the conservative movement today.” This is what he achieved on his day off. The other six days he created the world.

I think this is just a typo. PSU94 obviously meant to say “David Brooks”.

And your update is crap. These folks know exactly what they are doing, and it ain’t supporting the troops. Anyone with a shred of rationality and objectivity should understand that their signs, and their stunts, will have nothing but bad effects on the wounded men and women inside. Some of those signs carry some very powerful psycholigical messages that do anything but “support the troops”. They sound more like something you would hear from Tokyo Rose. Let these men and women recover and attempt to get on with their lives in peace. To crassly use them as a backdrop for your political message is beyond cruel and is downright inhuman.

Look, and pardon my french right off the bat, but regardless of whether you happen to like the source or not, these people were out in front of that hospital protesting, and its bullshit. I am not going to make any sweeping condemnations of the “left” based on these few idiots, but I will call these “Code Pink” people heartless idiots. You don’t like the war, and GWB? Fine, speak your mind. But don’t tell me you “support the troops but not the war”, and then display this kind of stuff in front of the hospital. Its just plain wrong, and in my opinion those of you who are war opponents should be speaking out against this as well.

And I’m not saying they should be prohibited from doing what they do. Its their right to protest in any manner they choose as long as its peaceful and lawful. But reasonable people should be able to agree on when someone has crossed the line.

    Ollie,
The simple thing to do would be to walk on over to Walter Reed and do some reporting yourself to tell us the truth about what’s going on over ther.e

You DO live in DC don’t you?

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 scratch

So let me make sure I understand this:

If I want to express my support for troops wounded in combat, a good way to do that would be to stand on the sidewalk in front of the hospital where they are being treated, with mock caskets and signs that say, “”Maimed for Lies” and “Enlist here and die for Halliburton.”

    Got it.

By the way, from your own link, here is what one of those soldiers actually thinks:

“We went by there one day and I drove by and [the anti-war protesters] had a bunch of flag-draped coffins laid out on the sidewalk. That, I thought, was probably the most distasteful thing I had ever seen. Ever,” Pannell, a member of the Army’s First Cavalry Division, told Cybercast News Service.

“You know that 95 percent of the guys in the hospital bed lost guys whenever they got hurt and survivors’ guilt is the worst thing you can deal with,” Pannell said, adding that other veterans recovering from wounds at Walter Reed share his resentment for the anti-war protesters.”

Maybe it’s a slow day, but this is perhaps one of your least credible and most unfounded posts ever.
