His Time Is Now

Edwards signals shift against war

For John Edwards, who voted as a senator to support the invasion of Iraq, his wife’s outreach to subscribers of their One America Committee Web site bears a distinct anti-war voice that could augur a new tack for Edwards as he prepares for a potential run for president in 2008.

“The president says he knows enough, doesn’t need to hear from Casey’s mother, doesn’t need to assure her that Casey’s is not one small death in a long and seemingly never-ending drip of deaths, that there is a plan here that will bring our sons and daughters home,” Elizabeth Edwards wrote in her e-mail last week. “He claims he understands how some people feel about the deaths in Iraq. The president is wrong.”

    “a new tack”

What does he really believe in? Does he have principles? “I was for the war now I’m against it” didn’t work for Kerry.

Dugger, “The answer my friend is blowing in the wind. “

Or it could augur a presidential run by Elizabeth herself. John, Liz, either one’s fine with me.

Oh, come on Dugger. Not the flip-flop bullshit again. This isn’t even flip-flopping. The whole ChiTrib article is crap. How can Edwards shift against the war when he hasn’t said word one about this? There’s not one quote from him or any of his people in the article. There’s one from a spokesman speaking about Elizabeth.

I thought he had shifted, too, until I actually read the email she sent (thanks for linking, O). She said nothing about being against the war. She says that the president is wrong when he claims he understands the hurt he’s caused military families. This is more her calling Bush a pompous ass than saying the war was wrong.

This paragraph sums up the whole email nicely:

Whether you agree or disagree with every part, or any part, of what Cindy wants to say, you know it is better that the President hear different opinions, particularly from those with such a deep and personal interest in the decisions of our government. Today, another voice would be helpful.

Try reading more than the media puts out.

Since when does refusing to alter your position, even in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary, represent having “principles”?

    Hey Pionar,

Try reading the lead of the thread – right at the top. Edwards voted for the war. The title talks about a signal to the effect that he is now coming out against the war – a new “tack”. If you don’t believe Edwards has changed his position on the war, your argument would seem to be with the presumption of this thread – now wouldn’t it?

When you’re a Bush supporter, apparently. See “intelligent design.” Accusations of “flip flopping” do not impress me as very good arguments.

Sometimes I wish Bush was a flip-flopper, or quit listening to Rove, Card, Cheney, and Rumsfeld.

  8. Edwards Shifts

Is Senator Edwards moving toward an anti-Iraq position?
