The Islamic Republic of Iraq

The Free Republic crowd, the most far-right pro-Bush bunch around are scratching their heads with the realization that American blood has been spilled to create a sister state to Iran.

Explain to me again why Democrats should continue to be mealy-mouthed about this war?

I’ve got my bowl of popcorn ready for the show the Bush apologists will put on to spin this into something good.

You make fun of Ann Coulter for suggesting that Americans should invade terrorists countries and convert their leaders to Christianity.

Then you freak out when it doesn’t happen.

Sheesh. What exactly were you expecting in a Muslim country?

    Mike,

The point is that we went into Iraq to ensure freedom and democracy for all the people of Iraq. So it seems a little lame when the result is a theocracy where women have no rights and religious extremists can monopolize power.

I don’t think Oliver [or anyone] would have a problem if a truly free democratic society was created in Iraq. In fact it would be the shining legacy for President Bush and all conservatives. Liberals might actually apologize to Coulter for not believing in her.

However, if we went to liberate the people of Iraq from Saddam and bring freedom and democracy and instead they get theocratic rule where women have fewer rights than under Saddam, then I don’t think we can say Mission Accomplished.

Robot Nixon summed it up well (except for the apoligzing to Coulter part, what she said was still reprehensible) but what one must also remember was that we aren’t freaking out now as much as we were BEFORE the war, you know the whole antiwar movement that was against this thing from the start for reasons that have all come to fruition (no link to 9/11, no WMD, and now, no democracy at gunpoint).
