Pressure getting to Mr. I Leak CIA Identities for Fun? That would explain him cursing on live television.

CNN
: “Bob Novak’s behavior on CNN today was inexcusable and unacceptable. Mr. Novak has apologized to CNN, and CNN apologizes to its viewers for his language and actions. We’ve asked Mr. Novak to take some time off”

UPDATE: When will the righ-wing culture nannies condemn this assault on our senses?

Quaker, that’s how Novak always sounds. You have to remember also that the man is 74 years old.

As for him messing up and cussing, why is this a big deal? I think somebody as annoying as Carville could get a nun to curse like sailor.

This is something that Media Matters believes is important?

  2. BinkyBoy says:

    Priceless. Absolutely priceless.

  3. O.Y.E. says:

    OOOOOOH!!!!

The FCC’s gonna CREAM him! Take away his job! Fine him thousands of dollars!

    Boys, go do your duty!!

[A guy can dream, can't he?]

  4. Quaker in a Basement says:

The story isn’t that he said “bullshit.” The story is that he stormed off the set.

I have a question: does he always talk that way? I don’t mean his choice of barnyardisms. I mean the clarity of his speech. I don’t watch much TV, but that sounded like he was under some sort of impairment. Medication problem? Lunchtime martini? He didn’t sound right to me.

  5. ewk says:

    Jay,

You don’t really believe that Novak bolted over what Carville was saying do you? Carville and others have said far worse to Novak on many occasions (not to mention if liberals bolted every time Novak said far more abusive stuff they’d hardly ever have any left for him to abuse)

Novak knew that the next segment would cover Plame-gate and he needed an excuse to get out of it.

  6. Quaker in a Basement says:

Is it important? Overall, probably not.

But after reading what Josh Marshall has on the matter, it looks like Novak was looking for an excuse to bolt the set.

  7. Quaker in a Basement says:

They asked him to take some time off? What? CNN has standards?

    Who knew?

  8. JK says:

I wonder how the reporter in prison (Judith Miller?) feels about CNN asking Novack to take time off.

    JK

  9. Jadegold says:

Frankly, the excuse that Novak is 74 y.o. is lame even by Caruso standards.

Face it, Novak’s been on TV thousands of times–he’s probably spoken in public tens of thousands of times. He makes his living in the public eye and has for around 4 decades.

The fact is Novak’s hacktivism is finally coming around to bite him and he’s losing it. This insn’t the first time in recent memory where Novak’s lost it in connection with his traitorous behavior.

  10. Jay C says:

    JK, it’s N-O-V-A-K

    NOVAK!!!!

    Not Novack!!

Go easy people. I’ve known JK for about 7-8 years now. This guy was spelling Novak’s name wrong way back in 1998 in the old Yahoo! Clubs.

Oh for crissakes, will you learn how to fucking read please? I cited Novak’s age as a reason for his speech not because he cursed.

How is it even possible for you to post comments here with your head so far up your ass?

  12. Jadegold says:

    Watch Caruso backpedal.

The fact is Novak makes a darn good living as a TV personality; he’s done as much for 4 decades.

Caruso would like to pretend Novak is some super-annuated rube plucked off some farm in Outer Pitchfork, South Dakota who suddenly became befuddled and confused by the bright lights and the slick city boy’s questioning.

There’s always an excuse if you’re a wingnut in Caruso-ville.

  13. grubi says:

I saw Novak on C-SPAN a couple of days ago, and he wasn’t as mush-mouthed as he was on CNN. So, age doesn’t seem to enter it. Nice try.

  14. johnnyprogressive says:

I think the key thing to remember is that these two men made a living by shouting at each other across a desk on Crossfire. Novak, to my knowledge, never got so upset that he walked off.So whatever justification you can give Novak for his little hissyfit doesnt hold water- hes dealt with Carville for a long time. He was clearly feigning outrage so he could duck out of the next segment that dealt with the CIA leak case.

  15. scratch says:

I don’t buy the “getting out of the CIA discussion” theory. Novak’s a professional…why not just say he won’t talk about it, or give non-answers? He’s a big boy. It doesn’t make sense to me.

On the other hand, what Carville said didn’t seem all that offensive either. WTF?

UPDATE: When will the righ[t]-wing culture nannies condemn this assault on our senses?

    Since you asked:
    Michelle Malkin
    Captain’s Quarters

And that’s just off the top of my head.

  17. trevorwells says:

Novakula blanched and ran at the first sight of what frightens all right-wing media vampires : serious reporters digging for the truth. Novakula knew damn good and well what the next segment was going to discuss. The fiend just plain punked out and bolted. CNN needs to fire the fiend.

    From Bustbob.com

“On July 14, 2003, “journalist” Robert Novak revealed the name of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame in print after speaking to a White House official. The agent’s husband, former US Ambassador Joseph Wilson IV, had publicly challenged President Bush’s claim that Iraq had tried to buy uranium ore from Africa — exposing yet another misleading rationale for war.

While causing consternation among some CIA and Administration officials (“Clearly it was meant purely and simply for revenge,” a senior Administration official said of the alleged leak. (Washington Post, 9/28/03)), it has not yet caused a change of conscience among the leaker — or the man who endangered US national security assets by publishing the name, one Robert Novak.

We don’t need to wait for more journalists to go to jail to find the leaker who is on the loose. One man knows. And he should come clean. He is not a journalist. He is an ideologue. And most of all, he is a traitor.”

I urge all to sign the petition and urge the Sun-Times and CNN to fire Bob Novak once and for all.

  18. Bushwacked says:

Slobbering Bob, as I call him, has raved on every show he’s been on, Crossfire, Inside Politics, Capital Gang, etc. His fellow commentators who sat next to him would appear to want to duck when he went into one of his tyrades because of his saliva projectiles. I watched the video and was amazed at how Carville and the host seemed so undisturbed by his antics, like they knew it was coming. Had to be a way of avoiding answering questions regarding his role in Plamegate.
As far as using the word “bullshit” on network television, it doesn’t bother me one bit. After all, that’s mostly what has been coming out of the Whitehouse and Republican Congress especially their “reasons” for going to war in Iraq.

  19. Quaker in a Basement says:

Josh Marshall, via others, posted an interesting tidbit. If you check the still frame at Crooks and Liars, you see that there was a rust-colored book on the desk. Looks just like a copy of Who’s Who in America.

Novak has claimed that some of the information he wrote about Valerie Plame was available from that source. Was he about to get nailed in a little lie?
