  1. Hedley says:

I wonder what that same cynic said when we bombed an aspirin factory to distrct from Grand Jury testimony about blowjobs in the Oval Office.

  2. Quaker in a Basement says:

Wow! Right outta the blocks Hedley is hollering “Clinton’s penis!”

You must be on the mark with this one, OW.

  3. White Whale says:

I need a few examples of innapropriate business dealings with Sen. or Reps that is recent. It can be both Dem. and Republican. And who is the Sen. who introduced the Flag smothering bill? Didn’t mean to be distracting:) If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate this.

  4. nawoods says:

Wow. Thats one hell of a cheap shot. Tell me again what is wrong with the president doing his job. Or is picking a justice like a break up, there is a certain amount of time that has to pass before we can move on. Or are you saying that IMPORTANT government functions should grind to a halt because of this Plame Vs. Rove thing?

  5. O.Y.E. says:

Certainly Oliver isn’t suggesting that our brave national media is incapable of handling more than one story at a time. Or that we Americans have very short attention spans.

    Hey look! Another hurricane!!

  6. Joe Schmoe says:

The most interesting part of the news which trumps the Supreme Court hoopla is Pres. Bush’s approval ratings regarding his recent statements. He is now less popular than Clinton during his impeachment proceedings. More people(75%) now believe Mr. Bush is not coming clean about the war in Iraq, the war on terror or Karl Rove.

The careful ‘parsing’ of statements by Clinton during his questioning by the press and congress received much brutal and accurate criticism. Mr. Bush, who is choosing his words and revamping his statements on an almost daily basis, should be held to the same standard.

    Does anyone remember, ‘credibility gap’?

The PResident must be more forthcoming. Maybe he should admit that Rove is so indispensible that unless he is convicted of murder or treason, Karl will stay at the PResident’s side.

By not coming clean with the public and rewording his statements so carefully, can anyone believe anything he says?

I was angry with Clinton because he refused to admit he was having the affair, he refused to tell the whole truth. The public can forgive when you are honest and forthright. But, MR. Bush and Mr. Clinton have both shown the inability to come clean.

I am afraid the blanket of morality that the president has wrapped himself in is becoming full of holes…moth eaten. As president, he is no more moral than our previous president.

  7. Hedley says:

Apparently, Clinton didn’t spend much time thinking about him either. And they were so sure of their “intelligence” (that turned out to be, watch for it, faulty) that they didn’t oppose the lawsuit filed by the guy who owned the plant. Sorry. Here’s your $24 million!

Anyway, I apologize for forgetting the Golden Rule around here — no mention of any events occurring prior to Jan. 2001 except to complain about the 2000 election. I realize now that it isn’t fair to point out that the same politics and hypocrisy, etc. that occur when Republicans are in charge also occur when Democrats are in charge.

  8. neoconsrloopy says:

“I wonder what that same cynic said when we bombed an aspirin factory to distrct from Grand Jury testimony about blowjobs in the Oval Office.”

I seem to remember something about that, something about attacks on a suspected WMD factory and a terrorist training camp. Who was Clinton targeting? Here’s a hint- Bush “doesn’t spend much time thinking about him”.

  9. johnnyprogressive says:

Hedley, since nobody other than rabid Republicans gave two shits about said blowjobs (note Clintons Impeachement approval rating above) the same cynic probably didnt make a connection.

Anyway, Clinton didnt bomb an aspirin factory, he was seeking to liberate and spread democracy to it. Thats what we call it nowadays right?

  10. neoconsrloopy says:

No Clinton spent plenty of time thinking about terrorism. While congressional republicans were shouting “No War for Monica” President Clinton was signing an order to kill OBL. You need to read “Against All Enemies” by Richard Clarke- that Republican, appointed in the Reagan administration and continued through Bush I. He will tell you who fought the REAL war on terror, which ended January 20, 2001.

I’ll give you a minute so you can leaf through your archived Richard Clarke talking points.

  11. TomY says:

Hedley, you’re right. It really is a tragedy that no one thanks you for how you come onto threads, bring up irrelevant shit and fail to address the subjects at hand. You are truly a misunderstood trol genius. Let me be the first to say: You are the wind beneath my wings.

  12. johnnyprogressive says:

Oh Ill save him the time, here they are:

He was a disgruntled former employee! His resignation letter offered faint praise! Nobody praises their boss in their resignation letter even if they disagreed with their actions, not even high level government officials! ZZT! Talking points… incoherent….Broot! MALFUNCTION! MALFUNCTION!

  13. BinkyBoy says:

Its always nice when someone makes that little bit of extra effort to really stand out from the crowd.

  14. Hedley says:

Good job working those talking points in there.

  15. Hedley says:

If your head is always burried in the sand then I guess anyone else would stand out.

Now let me hear a crack about talking points.

  16. TomY says:

An ordinary troll would go to a thread, and use diversions and distractions in order to derail discussion from the original subject at hand. Hedley, though, takes it above and beyond the call of duty by whimpering that he’s “just pointing out hypocrisy” and pretending to be the real victim.

Hedley, you get the Extraordinary Troll of the Day award! Congratulations!

  17. neoconsrloopy says:

Johnny, my favorite wingnut talking point is that Joe Wilson leaked his wife’s job to Novak, so that it would be blamed on the White House and undermine our great soldiers in Iraq and make the baby Jesus cry. That’s a pearl from Hannity the other day.

You just can’t make this shit up.

  18. BinkyBoy says:

The administration suggested it wouldn’t be for awhile longer. This was a sudden alteration in that, prompting comment.

And if you want to give honest opinion, try and do it by not attacking the host, but by stating that you disagree and why, you’ll find you might actually make points that way. Otherwise you just come across as a trolling asshole.

  19. Hedley says:

When did Bush give a date on which he was going to announce? He repeatedly said he would do it when he was ready, with enough time to have the nominee confirmed before October. With Congress on vacation in August that necessitates a July announcement. So if he announced next week that would be ok, but today is a political distraction?

According to the talking points regurgitated by the leftwingnuts here, Plamegate is among the most serious political scandals of our time such that it would be front and center no matter when Bush announced his choice. Just my “honest opinion.”

  20. nawoods says:

DINGDINGDING!!! We have a winner! neoconsrloopy! Claim your prize!

Serioulsy folks, can we not have a discussion around here without you guys trotting out this talking points thing? Those folks that do not see the world as you do are capable of forming their own opinions. This dig is a cheap rhetorical trick that serves to make your opponents look like unthinking fools. Don’t you guys see that the whole “talking points” thing could be applied to you guys just as easily? Anything ya’ll say about anything can be found all over the lefty blogs, or air america, or more liberal press outlets. Are ya’ll getting faxes from Carville and Gore? This thread started when our host, in a very snide manner, accused the administration of announcing a supreme court nomination to distract people from the Plame vs. Rove fiasco. Thats the issue. And in doing so, he brought himself to the same level as the Clinton haters. Thats not a talking point, its an observation.

  21. Hedley says:

It might be a serious political scandal if it were true. Doesn’t look that way though.

And BinkyBoy, I will take your valued opinion to heart. Clearly there are enough wingnut assholes here that we don’t need one more.

  22. johnnyprogressive says:

I like it when you lefties accuse someone of using talking points right before or right after you get done using your own talking points.

Irony is totally lost on so many members of the left.

I think some people are confusing “talking points” with “facts.” We state things like “the White House is being uncooperative with the ongoing investigation” and “it appears that the evidence is mounting against Karl Rove.” These facts are responded to with things like “Valerie Plame wasn’t a covert agent!” and “The CIA is overzealous with what it regards as top secret!” and “It was Novak who leaked Plame’s identity to Rove!” See the difference?

  23. neoconsrloopy says:

You don’t think that a senior White House official exposing a covert CIA agent is a serious political scandal?

“This dig is a cheap rhetorical trick that serves to make your opponents look like unthinking fools. ”

We call it “exposing truth”, you call it “look like unthinking fools”, we obviously agree.

I’m looking for O.Dub’s comment coming from the DNC, nope, nothing there. DLC? Nope, nothing there. Liberal pundits? Nope, neither of them either. I guess that means he’s an original thinker! As such, he can’t be GOP.

I don’t personally think this appointment is a distraction, after all the indictments aren’t out yet. He is making his announcement at the nadir of his popularity, 75% surveyed don’t believe him. If anything, he’s strategerily speaking, doing this at the wrong time.

  25. BinkyBoy says:

and we’re saying that your observation is a cheap attack on someone whose politics you disagree with.

Its an honest opinion from Oliver that this is a distraction. Bush could have waited for the time when he said he would announce it, or he can pull it up and give the press a 2 day distraction from Plamegate.

But I’m not making excuses for Oliver, as I disagree with him on this point. I don’t think this is a distraction, per se, as more of a hand waving “lookatmemom, I need attention!” kind of thing from Pres. Bunnypants. I think he wants the spotlight, plain and simple.

  26. PSU94 says:

I like it when you lefties accuse someone of using talking points right before or right after you get done using your own talking points.

Irony is totally lost on so many members of the left.

  27. johnnyprogressive says:

Neo, I’ve lost track of all the rationales and consipracy theories being peddled over the last couple of days. When the Rove story broke a couple of weeks ago, I was eager to see the miserable little man get the boot (though something tells me it wont happen). I have however gleaned new joy from this, and that is the seemingly neverending stream of Republicans who are twisting themselves into pretzels to try and defend Rove. Some deny he did anything, some admit he did something but it wasnt that important, and some, as you have pointed out, believe this is actually grand Machavellian maneuvering on Wilsons part. And with all these Republicans taxing us with their convoluted logic, some on this thread actaully deny there is a scandal. They then repeat this to themselves while they massage their temples and watch Fox News.

  28. nawoods says:

“But I m not making excuses for Oliver, as I disagree with him on this point. I don t think this is a distraction, per se, as more of a hand waving lookatmemom, I need attention! kind of thing from Pres. Bunnypants. I think he wants the spotlight, plain and simple.”

So what you are saying is that its not a distraction, but rather the president is doing some hand waving in order to distract the media. Nice. I get it now.

  29. BinkyBoy says:

    From Bloomberg:
Bush accelerated his search for a Supreme Court nominee in part because of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into the leak of a CIA agent’s name, according to Republicans familiar with administration strategy.

So I was wrong, but not as wrong as the wingers.

  30. White Whale says:

Wow. First and foremost it is amazing that Rove is held in such high regard even though he is a “political advisor” i.e. I will humiliate, destroy or discredit any person, issue, or thing that stands in my path so that I can win. These sort of people are about the lowest dregdes of society. I think most of the Sweet-Tea brigade on this blog don’t understand that this is more than some liberal cabal trying to gain political points. It all ties into the pet project of Iraq and Republicans need to never admit fault. My hopes aren’t up. This administration can blatantly lie better than Reagan ever could. At least when Reagan said “I don’t know” a sliver of doubt would say: Maybe he is that dumb and oblivious? To impeach a Republican president or at least hold him accountable would have to involve them….
