Robert Ehrlich, currently the governor of my state, Maryland, is hanging out with racists. And he doesn’t care. When asked about his attendance at a whites-only club, Ehrlich said:
I don t know what their membership is, and guess what? It s not my business& It s a private club, which we rented.
Not surprisingly, his black lieutenant governor and probable senate candidate Michael Steele is playing dumb toady to this. Do you understand that, Maryland? This pair of knuckleheads is spitting in the face of our state’s vital diversity and he doesn’t give a damn.
Maybe Michael Steele does not give a rip if a group of people in a private club utilize their rights as private citizens. What is more probable is that the Governor and Lieutenant Governor rented a physical structure from a group for a fundraiser, and this gets morphed into he hangs out with racists?
Maybe I don’t understand the situation, but isn’t it illegal for a public event to take place at a private place, if that private place excludes certain people on the basis of race?
Or is this not a public event?
Either way, a “private right” does not necessarily entail “is not racist.”
You’re ignorant Oliver.
Non-Stories and the Guys Who Bring ‘Em Up
Oliver Willis has jumped onto this non-story (with more here) about Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich’s recent fundraiser at a “racist” golf club. By “racist”, Oliver and others are inferring that, because there are not any registered black members…
Give it a rest, Oliver. It was a fundraiser. Period. I don’t see your “moral indignation” over the fact that Democrats and their supporters held fundraisers there and yet there was no shaken fists and clenched teeth.
The club does not have a written policy forbidding African-Americans from joining, and club members attest to the fact that African-Americans have played and dined there – hardly the “racist” club that you make it out to be. Especially when a professional Drama Queen like Kweisi Mfume, who has probably never even applied to the club before, is suddenly a “victim” where they “can’t” join, despite no physical, verbal, or written policy that would prove that out. Nothing like a non-existent barrier to prevent you from joining, huh?
Sorry I didn’t elborate my post .. but Oliver you’re argument is ignorant. That is like saying the NAACP is a racist organization … hmm actually that is a bad argument because they are … but you get my point.
Funny Oliver, I seem to recall your website peddling the book by former KKK Exalted Cyclops and career white supremacist/segregationist Robert C. Byrd.
Guess that makes YOU a racist, doesn’t it?
