add to Tuco R:
It's about time faux fiscal conservatives in the GOP got called on for their longtime championing of publicly financed sports palaces and special government exemptions, which have enriched many private individuals on both sides of the political aisle. This stupid anti-Soros stunt is blowing up in Republicans' faces.
As well it should.

Da Lurker:

So, the two other Republican Congressmen who have no problems with Soros buying into the team somehow makes for a grand conspiracy of "The GOP?"

Yes, I'm quite aware of the fact that three Republicans were quoted in the piece. Only one of them expressed anything but ambivalence over the Soros question. And even if all three of them did, that hardly makes for "the GOP."

Nice try, slugger. But you really were spot on about the "trolls" bit. You've really upped the ante with your post, haven't you?

Now Dr. Squid, I didn't say anything one way of the other about Soros owning a BB team - because I don't care. I agree w/Vincent's take on this. Those two or three Rs should have more contructive to do with their time rather than scr*wing around with the (somewhat) free market. But I was thinking about doing a little response table, however, of all the posters here who have criticized Boris for calling Rs Stalinists. You know, like when O gets his panties in a wad about some right wing shenanigan and has a roll call of right wing bloggers etc who have not criticized the miscreant. "Carl Rove called Mike Moore a poo-poo head. We have not heard from Brit Hume, George Will, Edmund Burke, etc."

Anyway, fatten up those tentacles Doc., the deep fryer is about ready,

Pretty dumb doesn t really even describe this.

Still, it s totally disingenuous (surprise surprise) of Oliver to claim this is the GOP at work, rather than one Congressman. It s even more dishonest because later in the article, another Republican Congressman is quoted as saying if Soros buys the team and seeks public funding for the new stadium or anything else, the GOP attitude would be, Let him pay for it. "

Tom Davis (R)
Rep. John Sweeney (R-N.Y.)
Another senior Republican lawmaker who requested anonymity

I could be wrong but i counted 3 repugnet repugs. You seem to have counted 2, but, i think you say oliver counted 1.

See how stupid it sounds when you pull verbal stunts like that? Do you even think about what you write anymore?

There needs to be a contest for "best trolls in america". This site is a contender.

I expressed no standards ,

Can't express anything you don't have, Doogie.

So why does a Dem contributor co-owning a baseball team get your widdle right-wing panties in a wad? I noticed you didn't bother addressing that. Because only conservatives are allowed to participate in the free market? Because you believe America isn't for everyone?

God, but you right wingers are sick, America-hating fucks.

This is hilarious.. I mean, what do the Republicans think he's going to do? Paint a picture of Bush's face on the baseball as a target? Create ballpark "whack-a-bush" games?

Seriously, I was unaware that baseball owners had so much political powers that they were a concern to Congress.

It sounds to me like a couple of people in Congress need to get together and share Senselessbrenner's bottle and pacifier. They're getting pretty cranky.

While the Soros-Ledecky group is not seen as the frontrunner to win the bidding for the Nationals, who should be awarded to their new owner at the end of the 2005 season, the very prospect that Soros could have a stake in the team is enough to irritate Congressional Republicans.

I think that's the funniest line in the whole story. Just the mere mention of a name -- "Clinton" or "Soros" or "Kennedy" or "Fonda" -- is enough to burst blood vessels in the heads of most Republicans.

Quaker,

"By the standards you expressed last week, Dugger, you ve just compared Soros to Stalin and Hitler. "

Don't think so. I expressed no "standards", but criticized the Durbmeister for equating the actions of our military with those of history's worst murderers (although he left Mao out, maybe he doesn't think we are all that bad after all or maybe he doesn't how how bad the Chairman was). That p*ssed me off then, does now. Boris injected Stalin into the picture - not I.

Boris,

Your grandfather's sister was the victim of an extreme leftist who murdered twice as many as Hitler. One would think that would not leave much sympathy in your world for extreme leftists. Yet your worry is not about Soros, the extreme and very powerful leftist, but good old Republicans - who are really, we learn, Stalinists. They can be radical rightists when we want them to be and radical leftists when we want them to be. They are, yes: The villains to fit all occasions. Your Republicans everybody! Those evil chameleons. You think that's humble shoe-shine boy Arlen Specter. No! Rip off that mask: its Stalin!!!!! He's alive!!!

By the standards you expressed last week, Dugger, you've just compared Soros to Stalin and Hitler.

I keep asking myself what political movement the GOP mimics and I found it. They are not Nazis, they are Stalinists. Which makes the accusation of gulags that much more plausable. My grandfather's sister spent more than three decades in the gulags because, as a Kulak(private farmer) she refused to collectivise. The details of gulag are unimportant. What is true is that imprisoning someone for political opinions or preventing them from achieving their goals because of what or who they are, is Stalinist. Siberia can be anywhere.
