Yes. Because Dems have apologized for shit we haven’t even done while the GOP has gotten away with murder for years on end. Frankly, I’m not personally interested in a Rove apology, he should just resign or be fired.

  2. Jon Henke says:

So, if I understand you correctly, Karl Rove “should apologize or resign” or both….but Democrats should “stop apologizing”.

I just want to be clear.

  3. pionar says:

My position is that one should only apologize when one misspeaks. I don’t think Rove misspoke. Durbin misspoke. Santorum misspoke when he used the N word. We know what the two meant, they just chose the wrong words and a bad analogy. Howard Dean does not need to apologize for anything he says, because he believes it and he’s a very eloquent speaker, so I doubt he misspeaks.

Rove didn’t misspeak, so he shouldn’t apologize. What should he apologize for? Saying what he believes?

  4. TomY says:

Jon, is your position that both should apologize or neither or something else?

  5. TomY says:

I’m in the Josh Marshall camp: the public views the side that apologizes as weaker, regardless of the relative wrongness of the actual statements. Since republicans are always calling democrats weak, apologizing hurts democrats more than it does republicans. The solution is not to play the game by never apologizing.

  6. TomY says:

And Jon, do you believe that the motivation of liberals is to see our troops die?

  7. Jon Henke says:

I think Rove should apologize for the insinuation of the “motives” remark, but none of the rest. I don’t believe Durbin needed to apologize, as his remarks were not in any way a comparison between “the troops” and “Nazis”, but between specific acts and the morality of totalitarian regimes. I think Byrd and Santorum were both obligated to apologize for their nazi remarks.

My position is that people should apologize when appropriate, and defend themselves otherwise. Oliver, on the other hand, seems to think that people should apologize when Republican.

They keep singing their new hit tune for Iraq called “Everything is Beautiful” while more of our troops die.

Karl Rove, can take his apology (if he has guts to offer it) and shove it. And I have a suggestion on exactly where to shove it. He and the republicans don’t OWN 9/11 and for that matter GOD or this COUNTRY.

I do not Hate America First. I served 8 years in the military and received an Honorable discharge. I worked for the U.S. Navy as a civilian for over 35 years till I retired. How much time did Karl put in? I support our troops in Iraq and all around the world, even after you all screwed that up too.

I cried as I watched those planes fly into the World Trade Center buildings on that September morning. I did not know one person in those buildings yet I felt my heart break.

For him to say anything about what I felt then or now makes me sick.

  9. Ron Chusid says:

Instead of apologizing, Democrats are ending the week on the offensive.

We’ve already seen the outrage over Rove’s gross distortion of Democratic views on fighting terrorism.

John Kerry just released his letter requesting that the Senate Intelligence Committee investigate the Downing Street Memo. A copy was sent to Light Up The Darkness:

  10. Dadahead says:

    I’m sorry

Allowing for reasonable exceptions, of course, Democrats would do well to expunge the words “I’m sorry” from their vocabulary.

Wow, what an asinine partisan hackery statement. Did you write that and then fall of your chair laughing at yourself?

You did mean to be funny, right?

  12. Zappa says:

That is a great point pionar -

We should say what we mean and mean what we say. There are plenty of reasons to be upset about what Karl means…I don’t think he should say he is sorry. I just think that it shows his true colors. partisan. Does not care about the whole of America!

  13. goatchowder says:

We need to stop apologising, *and* we need to stop demanding that they do too. Our outrage just makes us look like pussies, as much so as our apologies.

Strong people don’t explode in indignation. Strong people either slough it off, or decimate the fuckers in retaliation. But whining and crying don’t cut it any more than capitulation and blubbering.

Their apologies would mean nothing and accomplish nothing anyway, if they ever decided they were man (and woman) enough to do so anyway. So what exactly would we gain by them. Sir, they have no decency.

I agree: we need to stop. And we need to stop caring whether or not they do.
