Citizens United, along with a bunch of other far right websites are trying to skew the results of Discovery’s “Greatest American” program by voting for Reagan. Please go there and vote for anyone but Reagan (my choice is Martin Luther King, but I feel the others are similarly worthy).

Forget about the millions of soldiers that stood between the Soviet Union and western Europe; forget about all the people working in the defense industry; forget the cuban missile crisis; forget the West Berlin airlift. It was all due to Reagan and his useless Star Wars program (the Soviet scientist were too stupid to realize Star Wars was bullshit, I guess). He really scared the hell out of them when he said “…tear down this wall.”
The right doesn’t mind smearing all the people involved in winning the cold war as long as they can lionize a Republican President. That’s more important.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine how Reagan made it inside the top five and so did Martin Luther King, Jr., if the fix was in.
More likely, it was Reagan’s relatively recent death that made a big difference.
Bush coming in at #6 was a nice surprise, but considering Elvis Presley and Oprah Winfrey made the top 100, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.
