According to this guy, Washington-area fans have now given up on the Redskins because the Nationals are doing so well.

Look, nobody more than I have been more disappointed at the relatively crappy record of the ‘Skins for the past 15 years – but the idea that people are ditching them for the Nationals is the height of idiocy. Here, in the Nation’s capital, there is the Washington Redskins… and everything else.

It’s one thing to yammer on about one team eclipsing another when its June and the only talk of football is light-contact drills at Redskins park, but come back and we’ll have this conversation in September when Fedex Field is filled with us gullible fans hoping the magic will be back this time.

(You’d think the Washington Post had their season tickets almost all yanked from them. Oh, wait a minute.)

Forgetting the Redskins for a moment, what do you think about the Nationals? Having just recently kind of gotten interested in baseball again (haven’t really been into it since like, the 7th grade…), I was surprised that the Nationals existed (as a move from Toronto or Montreal or whatever…). But I’ve heard they’re a reasonably decent team.

Or are you mainly a football fan?

    Just curious.

the redskins have been in a very fortunate situation. no baseball team and a mediocre basketball and hockey team. Yeah there’s the redskins and everything else cause there haven’t been any other teams that were consistently good and worth following. we’ll see what the sports atmosphere in the DC area is like come fall.

Why does a black man support a sports team that uses a racist nickname that celebrates the taking of Indian scalps?

  4. rpenn says:

I agree with Spencer1948. I’d like to hear your rationale for supporting this team. My son-in-law, apparently a bright man, has your problem as well & he has been unable to convince me. I am pissed, so it’s not humorous for me. Please, explain it to me.
