That in December of 2002, March of 2003 (and March ‘03 again), April of 2003, August of 2003, November 2003, November ‘04, and January ‘05 when polls showed a plurality of support for the war in Iraq, Glenn Reynolds had no qualms about trumpeting the results on his site.
Of course, now that the majority of Americans think the Iraq war was a bad idea, what’s Reynolds’ position? Surely he respects the beliefs of the majority now?
“This far from an election, it’s hard for me to get too excited about polls, one way or another.”
Right.
Heh. Indeed. (Reynolds is both a wanker and a fluffer!)

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world that Instapundit is a reasonable, thoughtful moderate.
So, your point is to suggest Reynold’s is a hypocrite or that polls in between elections are more meaningful than elections? And do you respect the beliefs of the American people as regards the election? Bush conducted the war and the left lined up against him. And yet in the only poll that counts, the American people opted for Bush and rejected the left. Isn’t it time for you respect their beliefs?
Dugger
Reynolds is a HUGE hypocrite. He always points to stuff that makes the left look bad and the right look awesome, but NEVER, EVER the other way around. When he’s shown to be wrong, he simply ignores the issue.
Suggest Reynolds is a hypocrite? I’m pretty sure he flat out is one. Why the hell are you talking about not respecting the election results? All Oliver’s saying is that the public is experiencing buyer’s remorse the more Bush spends his “political capital” on things that hurt America.
The idea that “the only poll that counts” is the election is just dumb. If Bush’s poll numbers were somehow magically in the 60’s, Democrats would be breaking ranks left and right on Social Security, John Bolton, judicial nominees, etc. Did you only just start following politics, Dugger?
George Bush certainly does.
So TomY
If you were President, you would predicate major decisions on poll results. Hmm?
Dugger, Following Politics Since Well Before TomY Was Born
Dugger, if you’ve been following politics, it must’ve been over the radio, because you can’t read for shit. I said that if Bush was polling higher, he would be getting much more traction on his issues, making it a a) a poll that counts, and b) a poll that is not an election, something you asserted was a impossibility in this thread. I can send you an audio file of me reading that out loud, in case it’s easier for you to understand that way.
Gee, TomY
You must think very little of the Democrats integrity to suggest all we need is a poll to get a yes vote on an issue or judge they otherwise don’t support.
BTW. I’d have you send me that audio file but the battery in my hearing aid is kaput. Right now I’m keeping in touch with the political scene via my Etch-a-Sketch.
Dugger, Glued to his Radio
Yeah, when Democrats who get intimidated by Presidential popularity, I do question their integrity, like when they voted for that idiotic war resolution a few years back. Shocking!
Since you’re so interested, I should add that now that Bush’s lame duckification is well underway, I’m a lot happier with the overall integrity of the Congressional Democrats. Hey, I bet you were upset with your guys when they squeegeed Terry Schiavo’s off the agenda once the polls showed it was unpopular, too! We should start a club!
TomY,
Actually Schaivo is/was one of those issues that I simply don’t care that much about. And you may not believe this, but I’m not particualry thrilled by jorge laBush. he spends too much. If the Dems had offered a more viable alternative, which they did not and is unlikley for the future since the party is now controlled by its left wing, I may have voted for him/her.
And I still might vote for Hillary if she continues to moderate and the Republicans run a RINO. (If I want a big spender, at least I’d be getting one whose honest about her proclivities).

Oh look, look who found the wonders of polls yet again. Wonder how long before he doubts their integrity once more?
