Dumbest Headline In The History Of Journalism

That’s a lofty perch, but one it seems the Washington Post was aiming at when their sports department decided to bestow this gem upon the world:

Season Hinges on Gibbs, Ramsey

I kid you not.

The Washington Redskin’s season hinges on the performance of their head coach and starting quarterback. What insight! What talent! Surely, the brainiacs that come to such conclusions could only work for a major newspaper like The Washington Post! To think, the two most important positions on a football field would have anything to do with the team’s future performance. Next thing the Post will be making radical discoveries about the wetness of water.

I liked one in The Indianapolis Star a few days back:

“Manning looking for more TDs next season”

Really? I thought he was looking to tone it down a bit this season.

    Talk about Captain Obvious..

Kind of like when I hear baseball announcers say “The key to pitching is throwing strikes”… Really? Thanks!

If they are going to win this they are going to have to make more shots.

If they don’t get a first down here – they are going to have to punt it away.

republican’s are going to have to get a lot smarter to get us out of Irag.

Hey, don’t blame the headline writer. If the headline conveys the gist of the story, the headline writer did the job right.

If the sportswriter is so bankrupt of story angles that he’s given us 1,500 words on the importance of head coaches and starting quarterbacks, a snappy headline won’t fix it.
