Popularity Contest

Interesting observation by Ezra that of the 10 most popular senators, 8 are Dems, and partisans at that – while the more popular Republicans are the ones derided by “the base” as RINOs.

The problem is Democrats seem unable to translate this regional strength into a national force – why? Because they’re so afraid of being labeled partisans by Republicans and the lapdog media. I’m kind of sick of it.

Dems need to get over this ASAP and just go with their guts for once. If there’s any lesson I and other Dems learned from ’04 is that people will reward conviction or even the appearance of conviction over the appearance of pandering any day – even if they don’t agree with you.

I tend to believe this is one area where Hillary Clinton is ahead of the pack on.

But Hillary has moved towards the center. And the most popular Dem is Barack Obama, a moderate (IMO).

Hillary hasn’t made any “move”, she’s always been in the center, as was her husband, and most Democrats — but the minute they run for high office the right wing press calls ‘em the most liberal person alive.

Hillary has move towards the center. Most mainstream pundits agree. A quick Google would confirm.
