George W. Bush is an albatross around the neck of the Republicans.
Fearing that President Bush’s political problems may become their own, Republicans in Congress and elsewhere are beginning to yearn for the good old days of seven months ago, when he had somebody to run against.
The 2006 elections could become a referendum on George Bush, and he isn’t looking so hot right now.
Almost all progonosticators predict the Rs (Sabato, Cook) will hold the house and senate in 2006. There is no visionary Democratic Newt Gingrich out there with new and daring ideas to turn the tide. You might gain a typical off term seat here or there – thats it. And in 2008, Bush will have completed two full terms and then the Dems may have a good opportunity – if they run an adult like Hillary and send Hodean out (early) to his old racists home – with nary a Christian around to set him off “yearghhing!!!!” .
Dugger
I still don’t understand what’s wrong with calling the GOP a white Christian party. It’s clearly their base. Since when is the right wing so PC? And I know I’ve seen GOP referred to as God’s Own Party on bumperstickers in Birmingham, which I took to be sincere, (though they might have been mocking). Did you really have a problem with that, Dugger?
Oliver. I would hope your not falling into the well defined Demo rut of tying Demo success to GOP failure. We can’t wait on them. If the GOP constituency will vote for BUSH they will vote for ANYBODY!!! Bush is the lowest common denominator and he still won. He has the Midas touch…everything he touches turns to SHIT…and he still won. Let’s get back on message by defining, implementing and mobilizing an alternative to the glaring GOP failure in every aspect of domestic and foreign policy.
visionary Democratic Newt Gingrich
How does one scoff politely? Newt Gingrich a visionary? Gingrich proved himself to be a politically pathological liar and a hypocrite, and his “contract on America” proved to be a pile of horsesh-t that delivered much the opposite of what it promised. Does the Democratic Party need a loud-mouthed lying hypocrite to lead it to prominence? I don’t think so.
As far as your characterization of Howard Dean as a racist, are you serious, or is that just more reflexive Freeperesque stupidity? Howard Dean spoke directly and (mostly) accurately. I thought you wingers didn’t like political correctness? Oh, I guess you hate political correctness unless the ugly truth offends your little whining, pansy-ass ’sensibilities.’
Tom,
I do have a problem with that, considering he was talking in front of salivating crowd of Christian haters. I also have a problem with the “they all look alike” invective. The man is clearly a racist. The fact that he belongs to a party that advertises itself as non-racist does not give him license to engage in racist pandering.
Alex,
Scoff at will. Newt almost single handedly won Congress for the Rs – a much greater feat than winning the Presidency at the time – as far as Rs are concerned. In addition, the Contract w/America was the ideological centrepeice of the change. You can well argue about how it (CWA) was carried out (with certain notable defections on self-imposed term limits), but I’m talking about a daring idea and strategy – unlike the Democrats on social security who are advocating no ideas and hope the Rs screw up.
IMO, Gingrich may well be one of the top ten most influential political people in this country since WWII. The fact that he is a partisan doesn’t change the influence he has had.
Dugger
So Dugger – does your statement that he was talking in front of salivating crowd of Christian haters come from the fact that you spoke to said crowd and interviewed them on that stance? It seems that folks on the right keep focusing in on parts of what Dean and Durbin etc. have said, but do not focus on the topic of debate.
Can you comment on the alleged treatment of detainee’s in American custody?
Can you comment on the demographics of the republican party?
Uh, Dugger, “Christian” is not a race. How can Howard Dean be “racist” against Christians?

Answer 1: No.
So what should we focus on – their looks? Their shirt size? One would think if a man gives a speech its ok to focus on what he said.
Can you comment on the alleged treatment of detainee s in American custody?
Answer 2: Yes, I can.
Given their non POW status, its surprisingly humane.
Can you comment on the demographics of the republican party?
Answer 3: Yes, I can.
They are all Americans, who do not deserve to be ridiculed by powerful politicians becasue of their skin color and/or religion.

Well, last time I checked Christians had ethnic identities, but Dean’s overt racism comes in with the “they all look alike” remark. Seems racist to me. You?
